Stat3 plays an important role in inflammation, regeneration, proliferation and energy homeostasis.  Stat3 is constitutively active in as many as 70% of the primary human tumors and is considered an oncogene. The multifaceted functions of Stat3 are partly related to its peculiar ability to activate different sets of genes in different cell types and conditions by binding to the promoter regions of target genes.
